Angela Evelyn Bassett was born on August 16, 1958, in New York City, U.S. She is an  American actress, director, producer, and activist. She is the recipient of numerous accolades, such as three Black Reel Awards, a Golden Globe Award, seven NAACP Image Awards, and a Screen Actors Guild Award, in addition to nominations for an Academy Award, and seven Primetime Emmy Awards.
She is best known for The Cosby Show (1984),  Spenser: For Hire (1985), What’s Love Got to Do with It (1993).
