He is best known for his portrayal of teenage Chiron in the Academy Award-winning movie Moonlight (2016). He studied at Grand Arts High School in downtown Los Angeles. He graduated in 2013. He was studying at BFA at DePaul University Theater School before leaving in 2016 after three years to focus on his acting career. He appeared in the same episode of the comedy mini-series The Skinny in the role of Tyler, in 2106.
