Mitchell Joseph Landrieu was born on August 16, 1960, in the Broadmoor neighborhood of New Orleans, the fifth of nine children of Maurice “Moon” and Verna Satterlee Landrieu. His mother was partly descended from the large wave of Sicilian immigrants that came to Louisiana during the nineteenth century.
